Bellikon Rehabilitation Clinic's milestones

2018 Completion of the conversion and new construction work
After five years of construction, the Bellikon rehabilitation clinic has been completely renovated since June 2018. Thanks to the increased usable space and modern equipment, the clinic is prepared to assume its responsibility as the first address for accident rehabilitation and professional reintegration in the future as well.

2014 The rehabilitation clinic celebrates its 40th anniversary

2013 Construction work starts
The temporary east building is built. The therapeutic treatments move to the temporary building.

2012 Planning permission is obtained for renovating the clinic

2010 Plans are drawn up for the extensive renovation and extension of the clinic
The internal restructuring of the clinic to create a process-oriented organisation both in terms of medicine and administration is now also to be implemented in the structure of the building.

2007 The Yin City leisure facilities are opened
Patients spend an average of 45 days in the clinic. A successful recovery not only involves first-class treatment, but also varied and stimulating leisure activities.

2007 The temporary medical training centre (MTC) is opened
It is fitted out with state-of-the-art equipment and caters for specialised training and treatment methods. The building is available for a limited period of time.

2003-2004 Second renovation
The two wards are completely renovated. The clinic's accommodation is significantly upgraded and extended. The clinic now houses 205 to 217 beds in spacious one and two-bed rooms for patients with both general and private insurance.

2000 The spa clinic "Zum Schiff" in Baden is closed
Suva concentrates its services in German-speaking Switzerland in Bellikon.

1996-1997 The private department and observation unit are opened
The services available become even more comprehensive: patients who have recently been in an accident and require intensive 24-hour care and private patients can now also be treated. New private rooms are also available for patients.

1993-1997 First renovation and extension
Patients are admitted earlier and earlier, because early rehabilitation is an important part of a successful recovery. The most progress can be made in the first six months. Thanks to the extension of the infrastructure and services, the growing demand for beds can be met.

1985 Bellikon Rehabilitation Clinic moves in a new direction
The changes lead to a new direction in terms of medical treatment and a corresponding name change. The clinic develops into a specialist clinic for injuries of the musculoskeletal system, brain injuries and severe burns.

1977 The clinic's areas of expertise are expanded
More and more patients with very serious injuries are admitted. They require new treatment methods and types of therapy.

1974 The Bellikon follow-up treatment centre is opened
Capacity: 252 beds. After their stay in hospital, trauma patients who are largely independent are prepared for their return to their everyday lives with a selection of services ranging from traditional physiotherapy and ergotherapy to meetings with psychotherapists and social workers.

1969 Construction work starts
Suva has 232,953 m2 of land available in Bellikon for the construction of the new follow-up treatment centre. 54,000 m3 of earth are moved, 20,000 m3 of concrete are made and premises with a total volume of 120,000 m3 are built using 2000 tonnes of steel and 110,000 m2 of formwork.

1966 Contract with Bellikon
The municipality of Bellikon concludes a contract with Suva for a follow-up treatment centre. The shared history of the clinic and Bellikon begins.
