Neuropsychological assessment
A neuropsychological assessment involves a comprehensive evaluation of cognitive capability in the areas of attentiveness and concentration, learning and remembering, executive functions, language functions and perception.
In the context of expert opinions, abnormal behaviour and affective changes or changes in personality following brain damage or mental illness are also detected together with the experts during the neuropsychological examination.
To do this, a standardised and well-validated test procedure is used in addition to an in-depth medical history. An opinion is then given on the severity of the disorder and the results are compared with previous findings. Finally, aetiological observations (about the original cause) and a nosological classification (that describes illnesses systematically) are made based on the neuropsychological findings and discussed in a consensus meeting with the relevant experts, then recorded in an interdisciplinary summary together with a concluding overall expert opinion.
